Losing Weight-Is it Your New Year’s Resolution?

Losing weight. Your New Year's Resolution?

Happy New Year! 2015 has arrived and many of us are writing down our New Year’s Resolutions. For years my resolution list looked like this:

  • Lose weight
  • Lose weight
  • Lose weight

And I’m sorry to say that by the end of whatever year,I often didn’t lose any weight, and more times than not, gained a couple of pounds only to repeat the same resolution the following year.

Now why would I believe that if I failed at losing weight year after year by writing down my resolutions, I would get a different result? On January 1, 2006 I awoke feeling ill from eating so much food during the Christmas Holidays that I realized my “fat clothes” didn’t even fit. That was the moment that I knew if I didn’t change my relationship with food, losing weight was never going to happen.

So that year my resolution was to take a new approach and get honest about what and why I was eating. I uncovered how I used food as a band aide to deny, reject, and pretend life was always great. I ate when I felt/needed:

  • comfort
  • feeling lonely
  • afraid
  • happy
  • or wanted a reward

Did I ever eat because I was hungry? Once in a while; however, I never felt hunger often because I was always eating for reasons other than nutrition. Nine years ago, I am excited to tell you I did my last diet. Because while dieting, I uncovered all the reasons I used food other than for nutrition.

Now my New Year’s Resolutions remain the same.

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Choose healthy food 80% of the time
  • Enjoy treats, wine and bread in moderation
  • And no more guilt about food

My wish for everyone that reads this is to get honest and uncover why you are eating what you want whether it is for hunger or a million other reasons.

There is a solution for everyone and you can start by reading my book Stop the Torment: Conquer Your Relationship with Food or call for a free consultation to discuss The Metabolic Reset Program.

I wish all of you a Happy, Healthy 2015.
