The Five Steps to Quieting Your Inner Food Voice

The Inner Food Voice, a term coined by weight loss expert, Joyce Lillis, is a forceful voice that we have learned to negotiate and reason with about how much, what type, and the amount of food we are going to eat.  The constant chatter we converse with is exhausting, unrealistic and, ultimately, ineffective.  Here, Joyce shares five steps to quiet your inner debate about food.

  1. Begin by identifying when your inner food voice takes precedence over physical hunger.
  2. Become aware of how often you are listening to your inner food voice.
  3. Get in touch with your real feelings about your relationship with food.
  4. Take note of your feelings after you indulge in a decadent dessert or an extra slice of pizza. Anxious? Depressed? Something else?
  5. Treat yourself kindly. Don’t beat yourself up if you give in to your inner food voice once in a while.
